Case Study: 2014 Range Rover Sport
Today’s case study is a 2014 Range Rover Sport, in Ionian Silver Metallic.
The car belongs to a long-time client of mine, who’s been with me for almost 6 years now, but from whom I haven’t heard in over a year.
So, when she got in touch, saying “Alex, I need my car cleaned. When can you do it?”, I feared the worst.
During the past year and a half, the Range Rover has been mostly used for trips to the stables, where the family keeps their horses. The kids absolutely adore the horses, and they ride them several times a week.
By the way, this is a very interesting commonality among our clients — many of them own horses.
Some of the clients keep their horses at the stables in the Southlands area. Others keep them on their own properties, which are generous enough to accommodate several horses, and their related equipment.
As you may suspect, the ground at the stables is not paved in most places. It’s plain dirt. Which turns into mud whenever it rains.
And, when you get back in your car, after a day’s riding, you carry some of that mud inside with you.
Hence my knee-jerk reaction when I heard my client mentioning where the Range Rover has been for the past year and a half.
Because I had seen this scenario unfolding before.
Cars — not many, just a couple — with so much mud and hay pieces inside, you could make a horse out of them…
Eventually, we got them clean, but not without a fight.
This is why our clients, who own horses, have their cars thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis, just to prevent them from getting in such bad condition.
Because any car, that gets used in such way, can get past a “point of no return”, where no matter how much effort and skill you put into cleaning it, the results are mediocre at best.
However, this wasn’t the case this time.
The Range Rover was only moderately dirty, and it didn’t require any extreme measures.

As you can see, the exterior is in pretty good condition, mostly because of frequent automated washing.
Even with that, there was still a noticeable improvement after the cleaning session was completed. (We also waxed the paint, to make it shiny and glossy, just like a new car would be.)
The interior was a different story…
When you spend time in a car, especially with the entire family, dirt gets dragged inside no matter how careful you are.

We always get better results cleaning a higher-end car, such as an Range Rover, which is mostly because of the quality materials Range Rover uses in assembling their cars.
Just like anything else in life, with cars you get what you pay for. In this case, you pay more for an Range Rover than you’d pay for most cars, but you get much better, and more durable finishings.
Quick side note: Many car owners expect an interior in such condition to come out clean with “just a quick vacuum”. This is never the case. Aside from a thorough and extensive vacuuming, the carpets need to be shampooed, otherwise the improvement is minimal at best.
In this particular case, the client followed my advice, and chose the appropriate cleaning package.
A few hours of solid and meticulous cleaning, and my client’s Range Rover Sport is completely transformed…
The interior is now spotless — dirt and debris gone. It also smells fresh.
The exterior has regained its true colour, and it looks (almost) like a brand new car.
