Case Study: 2020 Range Rover Velar Autobiography
Today’s case study is a 2020 Range Rover Velar Autobiography, in Santorini Black.
The car belongs to a longtime client of mine, who’s been using my services for over 5 years now.
Until today, all the appointments had been arranged through his personal assistant. But she is now on a leave-of-absence, so my client and I had, for the first time, the opportunity to meet face to face.
He takes really good care of all of his cars, using my service often, and even washing them himself (only the exterior) every once in a while…
(As a side note — it is really helpful when someone, before getting their car detailed, gives the exterior a quick wash, just to spray off the bulk of the dirt and mud. Any automatic drive-through car wash works perfectly fine for this. It allow the detailer to focus on what he does best, and spend time on the areas of the car that really make a difference in the final result.)
My client owns and runs a couple of very successful businesses.
Him and his wife are passionate hikers, spending lots of time on the trails.
Because of that, the interior of the car, and especially the carpets, can get quite dirty with wet soil and leaves.
And, if you let them stay dirty for too long, the whole car starts to smell musty.
Once it reaches that point, cleaning alone is no longer sufficient, and an Ozone Shock Treatment is required to get rid of the smell.
(Aside from killing many microorganisms, such as: bacteria, mold, viruses, allergens, etc., from places where cleaning itself can’t reach, this Ozone Shock Treatment has also a bonus side effect: it makes the interior of the car smell fresh.)
This wasn’t the case with this Range Rover Velar, because the owner doesn’t let too much time to pass between cleanings.
My client and his wife also have a dog, which often travels in the car with them, but they’re careful to protect the back seat with a specially designed cover.

As you can see, the exterior is in pretty good condition, mostly because of frequent washing.
Even with that, there was still a noticeable improvement after the cleaning session was completed. (We also waxed the paint, to make it shiny and glossy, just like a new car would be.)
The exterior has regained its true colour, and it looks (almost) like a brand new car.

The interior was a different story…
When you spend time in a car, especially with the entire family, dirt gets dragged inside no matter how careful you are.

Quick side note: Many car owners expect an interior in such condition to come out clean with “just a quick vacuum”. This is never the case. Aside from a thorough and extensive vacuuming, the carpets need to be shampooed, otherwise the improvement is minimal at best.
In this particular case, the client followed my advice, and chose the appropriate cleaning package.
A few hours of solid and meticulous cleaning, and my client’s Range Rover Velar is completely transformed…

We always get better results cleaning a higher-end car, such as a Range Rover, which is mostly because of the quality materials Range Rover uses in assembling their cars.
Just like anything else in life, with cars you get what you pay for. In this case, you pay more for a Range Rover than you’d pay for most cars, but you get much better, and more durable finishings.
The interior is now spotless — dirt and debris gone. It also smells fresh.
