Case Study: 2020 Porsche Macan GTS
Today’s case study is a 2020 Porsche Macan GTS, in Chalk.
The car belongs to a longtime client of ours, a successful lawyer in Downtown Vancouver.
He and his family had just returned from a road trip, and the Porsche Macan was in serious need of cleaning.
Road trips are much fun, but they also take a toll on your car, especially when you’re travelling with young kids. You must keep the kids busy at all times — otherwise the fun turns into a nightmare — and a big part of that is making they have plenty of snacks to munch on.
Of course, some of those snacks end up on the floor of the car, on and in between the seats, and in pretty much every crack and crevice at the back of the car.
Aside from being visually unappealing, all these crumbs and food leftovers, if left unattended, will attract dust mites, bugs, and even mice. Not to mention that they start rotting and molding fast, creating all sorts of disgusting smells, and even becoming a health hazard.
Also, on such long trips, the whole family spends a bunch of time in the enclosed space which is the interior of the car. Bacteria and toxins build up, especially in the air ducts. It is very important, upon returning home, to do a thorough cleaning and sanitizing of the whole interior of the car in order to get rid of all the contaminants.

Anyway, back to the gorgeous Porsche Macan…
The whole front of the car was literally plastered with hundreds and hundreds of dead bugs. Which, in case you didn’t know, are highly acidic, and will etch into the car’s paint if left sitting on it for long.
Cleaning bug splatter from the exterior of a car is no easy task. Many people would think it is as easy as blasting the area with water, and scrubbing as hard as you can.
Not so. In fact, by approaching it this way, one could easily do more harm than good.
The bug splatter needs to be soaked and softened first with a special chemical. Many such chemicals on the market are either too harsh, or completely ineffective. We found ours after years of testing.
Also, no scrubbing. Scrubbing will only scratch the finish on the car, leaving unsightly marks.

Aside from the front end being covered in dead bugs, the exterior of the car was not in terrible condition. The owner takes good care of the Porsche Macan, running it through an automatic touchless car wash about once a month.
Even with that, there was still a noticeable improvement after the cleaning session was completed. (We also waxed the paint, to make it shiny and glossy, just like a new car would be.)
The exterior has regained its true colour, and it looks (almost) like a brand new car.

The interior was a different story…
When you spend time in a car, especially with the entire family, dirt gets dragged inside no matter how careful you are. Not to mention endless crumbs…

Quick side note: Many car owners expect an interior in such condition to come out clean with “just a quick vacuum”. This is never the case. Aside from a thorough and extensive vacuuming, the carpets need to be shampooed, otherwise the improvement is minimal at best.
In this particular case, the client followed my advice, and chose the appropriate cleaning package.
A few hours of solid and meticulous cleaning, and my client’s Porsche Macan is completely transformed…

Just like anything else in life, with cars you get what you pay for. In this case, you pay more for a Porsche than you’d pay for most cars, but you get much better, and more durable finishings.
The interior is now spotless — dirt and debris gone. It also smells fresh.
