Today’s case study is a 2020 Tesla Model Y, in Midnight Silver Metallic.
This comes from the “stable” of a long time client of mine, and is his wife’s car.

What’s special about this car cleaning is that it originated out of love.
More specifically, my client wanted to surprise his wife for her birthday with a clean car.
And so, he made the necessary arrangements with me, while his wife was completely unaware of the whole plot.
The whole thing was not easy to pull off, as the she is a very busy professional, and also a huge dog lover.
The dogs travel in the car with her pretty much anywhere she goes.
Which meant that my client had to make up a reason to swap cars with her for the day, without raising any suspicions.
(despite my persistent questioning, he was unwilling to share his strategy…)
Anyways, somehow he did it, and we were able to pick up the car from him.
Having dogs in the car almost all the time makes it so much more challenging to clean, especially because this car has the famous Tesla white leather interior.
Luckily, the car is only about one year old, and it’s not showing any wear-and-tear just yet.
Underneath all the dirt, the interior surfaces still looked like day one.
But because the whole thing was somewhat “last minute”, and the cleaning took quite a few hours, there wasn’t enough time left to do the Leather Treatment service.
This would’ve been a great addition because, aside from rejuvenating the leather seats, it would’ve have also protected them from getting excessively dirty over the next few months.
When your car’s leather seats are light in colour, they shoe dirt and wear-and-tear much more than dark leather seats.
And cleaning them often is just one part of a good maintenance plan.
The other part, just as important, is regularly applying a high quality water-based leather protectant.
This keeps the seats from getting too dirty in the first place, acting as a “sacrificial barrier” — much like a Paint Sealant would for the car’s exterior paint.

As you can see, the exterior is in pretty good condition, mostly because of frequent washing.
Even with that, there was still a noticeable improvement after the cleaning session was done.
The exterior has regained its true colour, and it looks (almost) like a brand new car.

The interior was a different story…
When you spend time in a car, even if just by yourself and the occasional passenger, dirt gets dragged inside no matter how careful you are.

Quick side note: Many car owners expect an interior in such condition to come out clean with “just a quick vacuum”. This is never the case. Aside from a thorough and extensive vacuuming, the carpets need to be shampooed, otherwise the improvement is minimal at best.
In this particular case, the client followed my advice, and chose the appropriate cleaning package.
A few hours of solid and meticulous cleaning, and my client’s Tesla Model Y is completely transformed…

We always get better results cleaning a higher-end car, such as a Tesla, which is mostly because of the quality materials Tesla uses in assembling their cars.
Just like anything else in life, with cars you get what you pay for. In this case, you pay more for a Tesla than you’d pay for most cars, but you get much better, and more durable finishings.
The interior is now spotless — dirt and debris gone. It also smells fresh.
